I had a terrifying dream that my six year old sister was having a tantrum. This is nothing unusual, except that this tantrum was much more serious than her usual ones. She ran round the house screaming, causing havoc, ripping down the curtains and smashing every object in sight, refusing to calm down. I wasn't sure what to do. I couldn't hold her as she would hurt me, and I didn't want to call the police on my six year old sister.

On the same night I had another dream that I found a scraggy, dying kitten my the side of the road on Christmas Eve. I brought it inside and tried to feed it, but it was clear that the kitten needed immediate vetinary attention. I asked my mother to drive us to the vets, but she said no vets would be open on Christmas Eve. I could do nothing but stand there and watch it die. It seemed to be suffocating. It took forever to die. I wanted desperatly to kill it quicker to put it out of its misery, but the only thing I had handy to do so was a kitchen knife and I couldn't bring myself to slit its throat.

After it died, I carried its body around for ages, refusing to admit that it wouldn't ever breathe again.

Both these dreams contained situations where something was happening that I had no control over and could do nothing about. Any other suggestions as to what they might mean?

One of your symptoms of that is having vivid nightmares about the experience. however... if this is an isolated incident then that's probably not the case.

My guess would be then that you have experienced recently something in your life that made you feel helpless and/or violated and you are equating it with that past experience. that's what most dreams are, regardless of the situations you may see represented in them, the emotions are what you should pay attention to.

To usually see a cat in your dreams tends to mean bad luck but to see you own cat is another story, that usually indicates that you have a independent spirit, creativity, power. For it to be dying may indicate your fear of losing someone you love, to search is to look for an answer to a question you might have. To see a white cat expresses that you might be going through a difficult time at this moment. Hopefully this helps :)
